Cambridgeshire County Council (Adult Social Care)
The Adult Social Care Commissioning Team, operating across both Cambridgeshire County Council & Peterborough City Council, seeks innovative ways to meet the growing demand for care and support despite increased budgetary pressures. One mechanism for more personalised care is a Direct Payment, through which individuals can receive a Personal Budget, established by a social worker, following a care needs assessment. With a Direct Payment, people can exercise much greater choice and control over which services they access than is possible under a traditional model of support (e.g. an arranged provision of domiciliary care). In East Cambs and Peterborough, we are introducing Individual Service Funds, where a trusted provider is chosen by the client to work closely with them to ensure they are able to access a wide range of support services of their choice, including the option of changing activities from one week to the next, provided these services and activities help meet an assessed need or eligible outcome. In East Cambs, under the Happy at Home programme, we are providing free training and support for those who wish to set themselves up as Sole Traders or to establish Care Micro-Enterprises to help diversify the care market and deliver high-quality, safe care and support in their local community. Our Community Catalyst will provide all the support necessary for somebody to become their own boss and increase their earnings when compared to more traditional care sector employment opportunities.
